European Union
The 15 nations (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the UK, Austria, Finland and Sweden) that have joined together to form an economic community with common monetary, political and social aspirations. The EU came into being on 1 November 1993 according to the terms of the Maastricht Treaty; it comprises the three European Communities, extended by the adoption of a common foreign and security policy which requires cooperation between member states in foreign policy and security and cooperation in justice and home affairs. L'UEFA dispose de sept sièges au sein du Comité Exécutif de la FIFA, deux sièges de vice-présidents et cinq sièges de membre.
UEFA abbr.A society entered in the companies registry under the terms of Art. 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code, that is neutral politically and religiously, and whose main objects are to deal with all questions relating to European football, to promote football in Europe in a spirit of peace, understanding and fair play, to organise and conduct international football competitions and international tournaments at European level, to safeguard the overall interests of UEFA member associations, to ensure that the needs of the different stakeholders in European football are properly taken into account, to respect the interests of UEFA member associations and to settle disputes between them.► UEFA is a confederation recognised by FIFA, with which it maintains good relations and cooperates, as well as with the other confederations recognised by FIFA. UEFA has seven places on the FIFA Executive Committee, including two vice-presidents and five members.

EU Council
The Council of the European Union is an institution which exercises legislative and decision-making powers. At the same time, it is the forum in which the representatives of the Governments of the 15 Member States can assert their interests and try to reach compromises. The Council ensures general coordination of the activities of the European Community, the main objective of which is the establishment of an internal market, i.e. an area without internal frontiers guaranteeing four freedoms of movement - for goods, persons, services and capital - to which should soon be added a single currency. In addition, the Council is responsible for intergovernmental cooperation, in common foreign and security policy (CFSP) and in the areas of justice and home affairs (JHA), including for example matters of immigration and asylum, combating terrorism and drugs and judicial cooperation. A UEFA committee whose main duties are to supervise UEFA's technical and football assistance or exchange programmes within the UEFA member associations, to monitor the development of the UEFA Convention on the Mutual Recognition of Coaching Qualifications, to oversee grassroots and player development, and to cooperate with the Union of European Football Trainers.► The Development and Technical Assistance Committee is supported in its work by the Jira Panel, the Grassroots Football Panel and the UEFA technical instructors.
